About the Role
We are seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Executive Leadership Team and lead critical operational functions during this exciting phase of growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will shape organizational strategy, culture, and operational excellence to support our mission-driven work.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Finance & Risk Management

  • Lead budget planning and financial oversight.
  • Ensure alignment of resources with strategic priorities.
  • Manage financial risk and deliver timely annual accounts.

Human Resources Leadership

  • Oversee the HR function in partnership with the Head of HR.
  • Build high-performing, diverse, and inclusive teams.
  • Implement people-focused policies and organizational culture.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Ensure value-driven procurement of consultancy and services.
  • Lead compliance with internal procurement policies.

Technology & Systems Development

  • Collaborate with the Head of Technology to optimize internal systems and public-facing digital platforms.
  • Ensure tech solutions meet the organization’s needs and are effectively project-managed.

Hybrid Work Strategy

  • Lead the evolution from fully virtual to a hybrid working model.
  • Foster inclusion for remote employees while activating physical office hubs globally.

Executive Leadership

  • Contribute to the development of SBTi’s long-term strategy, governance, and organizational culture.
  • Work closely with the CEO and Board to deliver on the mission.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified finance leader with a strong background in strategic financial management.
  • Proven leadership in at least one other key area: HR, procurement, project/tech operations.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to operationalize complex goals.
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Experience as part of an executive or senior leadership team.

Desirable

  • Experience managing or scaling operations across dispersed or global teams.
  • Background in mission-driven, non-profit, or environmental organizations.
