Location: Swindon or London (flexible, 2–3 days on-site with some international travel)
Salary: £68,525 per annum
Contract: Open Ended | Full Time
Grade: UKRI Band G

Lead at the Heart of UKRI
This is a rare opportunity to work directly with the UKRI Chief Executive, Professor Sir Ian Chapman, in a high-profile, fast-paced leadership role.

As Head of the CEO Office, you will manage the Private Office function for both the CEO and Chair, acting as a trusted advisor and key interface between UKRI, Government, and stakeholders across the research and innovation landscape.

This is a pivotal post, offering visibility across the organisation, influence on strategic priorities, and a chance to shape decision-making at the highest level.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee the smooth operation of the CEO’s and Chair’s Offices
• Act as a trusted advisor, ensuring accurate, timely advice and briefings
• Build strong relationships across Government, business, and the research community
• Drive forward the CEO’s priorities, leading discrete projects and initiatives
• Manage high-profile engagements including Ministerial meetings and national security matters
• Collaborate with the UKRI Executive Team and Council leaders to support effective decision-making
• Provide leadership to the Private Office profession across UKRI, promoting cohesion and best practice

What We’re Looking For CEO Office

Essential:

• Proven experience in a complex, fast-moving organisational environment
• Strong influencing, relationship-building, and communication skills
• Ability to balance big-picture strategy with attention to detail
• Confidence in making effective, pragmatic decisions under pressure
• Excellent written and verbal communication at senior level
• Demonstrated leadership, with experience building strong team cultures
• Eligibility to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance

Desirable:

• Previous experience in a senior leader’s office
• Knowledge of the UK research and innovation sector
