The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is a world-leading professional membership body for architects and the built environment. With a Royal Charter, we champion excellence in architecture, drive innovation, promote sustainability, and support our members in creating better buildings, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future.

As part of our growth and transformation journey, we are investing in our House of Architecture programme, strengthening our digital capabilities, expanding our cultural reach, and building deeper public appreciation of architecture. With RIBA’s world-class collections, museum status, and strong reputation, we are committed to celebrating design excellence and supporting a diverse and inclusive profession.

Join Us as an Independent Trustee
We are looking to appoint four new Independent Trustees to play a key role in shaping RIBA’s future. As a Trustee, you will:

  • Provide strategic challenge and oversight as a member of the RIBA Board.
  • Use your professional expertise to guide decision-making and governance.
  • Help us deliver impact for our members, the wider public, and the built environment.

We welcome first-time Trustees as well as experienced non-executives. While prior knowledge of architecture is not required, you should bring a genuine interest in the profession and an ability to influence high-profile stakeholders.

Skills We’re Looking For
In this round, we are particularly interested in Trustees with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Heritage & Culture
  • Business & Commercial (Qualified Accountant)
  • People & Culture
  • Marketing & Communications

What You’ll Bring as a Independent Trustee

  • Senior-level subject matter expertise in one of the areas above.
  • An understanding of governance and the responsibilities of a non-executive role.
  • A proven ability to shape strategy, challenge constructively, and guide decision-making.
  • A strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

Why Join RIBA?
This is a chance to make a real impact on one of the world’s most influential professional bodies. As a Trustee, you will help steer RIBA at a pivotal time, contributing to its transformation and ensuring it continues to serve members, society, and future generations.
