We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our Historic Places Panel (HPP) as a Landscape Architect. This role is ideal for an experienced professional passionate about creating greener, more sustainable urban environments and shaping strategies that support placemaking and regeneration in areas facing urban decline.
About the Historic Places Panel
The Historic Places Panel brings together experts in urban design, planning, architecture, archaeology, and landscape to provide independent advice to local authorities, developers, regeneration agencies, and community representatives. The Panel’s work helps guide regeneration strategies and supports the transformation of historic places across England.
Key activities include:
- Immersive two-day site visits (up to three per year, not all mandatory).
- Annual seminars to reflect on and review the Panel’s work.
- Sharing expertise with fellow panel members and Historic England teams.
- Occasional conferences and strategic discussions to shape Historic England’s priorities.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Landscape Architect (or urban designer with relevant expertise) who can:
- Contribute specialist knowledge of urban green and blue networks.
- Help deliver strategies for sustainable, people-focused public realm.
- Offer insight into masterplanning and regeneration projects.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary peers and local leadership.
- This is an opportunity to share your expertise, influence regeneration projects, and be part of a respected panel that directly impacts placemaking across England.
What You’ll Bring as a Historic Places Panel
We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of heritage as a driver of regeneration and placemaking.
- Strong communication, influencing, and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to Historic England’s purpose and values.
- Willingness to challenge constructively and work as part of a diverse panel.
- Experience in urban design, landscape architecture, or sustainable public realm planning.
- Formal qualifications are not required — we welcome applications based on professional experience and expertise.
