Deputy Bar Course Leader – ICCA

The Council of the Inns of Court (COIC), a legal education charity, is seeking a dedicated Deputy Bar Course Leader to support the delivery and development of the Bar Course at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA). This course offers a flexible, high-quality, and affordable route to Bar qualification through a blend of online and in-person learning.

COIC supports legal education and high standards of advocacy, primarily through ICCA. ICCA’s innovative two-stage Bar Course has become a respected and accessible pathway for aspiring barristers.

About the Role
As Deputy Bar Course Leader, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of legal education. Working closely with the Bar Course Leader and a team of expert tutors and visiting lecturers, you’ll ensure cohesive, high-quality teaching across both civil and criminal law modules.

You’ll also manage course materials, support and guide tutors, and deliver engaging face-to-face teaching sessions at venues across the four Inns of Court.

Deputy Bar Course

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Senior Tutors and ensure consistent course delivery.
  • Manage and enhance both civil and criminal components of the course.
  • Lead masterclasses and coordinate mock trials.
  • Deliver face-to-face instruction, assess student work, and provide feedback.
  • Develop and refine course content in line with academic and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage teaching materials and coordinate Visiting Lecturers.
  • Provide pastoral support to students.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external quality assurance standards.
  • Stay current with legal and educational developments.
  • Represent ICCA at relevant meetings and external events.

Person Specification:

  • Significant experience in courtroom advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and teaching enthusiasm.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Proactive and confident decision-maker.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness to learn about Bar training governance and curriculum.
  • Understanding of the Inns of Court’s role in the legal profession.

Location:
Central London (Inns of Court area) – some hybrid working may apply.
