About CATS – Camden Accessible Travel Solutions
CATS is Camden Council’s in-house transport provider. Operating from our King’s Cross depot, CATS supports accessible transport for children, adults, and community users. Services include:

  • School and community accessible bus transport
  • Taxi and vehicle bookings
  • Fleet maintenance and MOT testing
  • Fuel provision and driver training
  • Management of concessionary travel schemes

About the Role – What You’ll Be Doing
As the Engineering Manager, you’ll play a critical leadership role within the CATS management team, ensuring all operations run safely, efficiently, and in compliance with national transport standards. You’ll oversee Camden’s fleet of around 330 vehicles, and lead both strategic innovation and day-to-day maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the fleet workshop, depot, MOT centre, and engineering staff
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety, vehicle inspection, and operator licensing requirements
  • Lead Camden’s fleet decarbonisation project, supporting our goal to transition to zero-emission vehicles by 2030
  • Collaborate across departments to align transport strategies with council objectives
  • Oversee implementation of telematics systems, performance reviews, and continuous service improvement
  • Provide expert technical advice and leadership to workshop teams, apprentices, and operations staff
  • Act as the lead point of contact for transport compliance, fleet performance, and depot safety

Who We’re Looking For – Skills and Experience
Essential Qualifications:

  • Level 3 (or above) Engineering Qualification
  • Full UK Driving Licence and PCV or HGV licence
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage (National Freight or Passenger Transport)

Essential Experience:

  • Strong background in vehicle maintenance and repair, including LGVs, vans, and passenger buses
  • Deep knowledge of operator licensing, fleet legislation, and workshop compliance
  • Strategic mindset to lead decarbonisation, innovation, and performance improvement
  • Experience managing health & safety, depot operations, and technical teams
  • Confident communicator with the ability to coordinate across teams, suppliers, and stakeholders
