Financial Controller 

Hybrid | £52,744 + Exceptional Benefits | London WC1

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Financial Controller to lead financial governance, compliance and operational excellence across the organisation.

This is a strategic leadership role within a mission-driven charity focused on improving child health worldwide. Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance, you will play a critical part in safeguarding financial integrity, driving accurate reporting, and supporting long-term sustainability.

You will manage a team of six and oversee statutory reporting, payroll, financial controls, treasury, audit and systems optimisation. This position is ideal for a qualified and experienced accountant who thrives in a collaborative, purpose-led environment.

Key Responsibilities of Financial Controller

  • Lead accurate and efficient month-end and year-end close, including group consolidation and statutory accounts
  • Ensure full compliance with tax, audit, charity accounting and SORP regulations for financial controller.
  • Act as primary contact for internal and external auditors
  • Oversee payroll, cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, and treasury operations
  • Enhance financial systems, internal controls and reporting processes
  • Coach and develop a high-performing finance team
  • Partner with senior leaders to provide financial analysis and strategic insight
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and key funding or transformation projects

Required Skills & Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a finance/accounting degree
  • 5–7+ years’ experience in financial leadership, preferably in the nonprofit, healthcare or public sector
  • Proven experience managing audits and producing consolidated statutory accounts
  • Strong analytical mindset and meticulous attention to detail
  • Expert Excel user with strong knowledge of financial systems
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop a finance team
