Head of Careers – Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA)
Location: London, WC1R 5JJ (Hybrid/Flexible Working)
Contract: Permanent, Part-Time (0.6 FTE, 21 hours/week)
Salary: £61,000 FTE + generous benefits

The Council of the Inns of Court (COIC) is a charitable organisation dedicated to advancing legal education and promoting high standards of advocacy. Through its education arm, the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA), COIC delivers world-class training for aspiring barristers—including the innovative ICCA Bar Course launched in 2020.

Since inception, the ICCA Bar Course has delivered exceptional results, with students achieving high academic performance and excellent pupillage outcomes.

We are now seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Careers to build on this success by supporting students in securing pupillage and establishing meaningful careers at the Bar.

Head of Careers

Key Responsibilities:

Careers Support & Guidance

  • Deliver personalised 1:1 careers advice to Bar Course students.
  • Provide expert feedback on CVs, cover letters, and Pupillage Gateway applications.
  • Organise mock interviews and advocacy exercises with input from barristers.

Careers Education & Programming

  • Design and lead in-person and online workshops covering:
  • Pupillage application processes
  • Life at the employed and self-employed Bar
  • Interview preparation and advocacy skills
  • Manage and update digital careers resources.

Employer Engagement

  • Build relationships with chambers, Inns of Court, legal employers, and recruiters.
  • Host careers events, panels, and networking opportunities.
  • Promote students and the ICCA course externally.

Data & Strategy

  • Track and report on pupillage outcomes and student destinations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and align careers services with institutional goals.
  • Ensure inclusivity and support for students from diverse backgrounds.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of the Bar of England and Wales.
  • Experience guiding aspiring barristers or legal professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) principles.
  • Experience working with professional stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Practising or non-practising barrister, or experience with chambers, Inns, or higher education.
  • Familiarity with legal sector trends and student career services.
  • Line management experience.
