Electrical Project Engineer

About the Parliamentary Maintenance Services Team (PMST)
The PMST Projects Team is responsible for keeping the historic and modern infrastructure of the Parliamentary Estate running smoothly. With around 50 active projects and a £10 million annual budget, the team delivers electrical, mechanical, and structural enhancements across the estate while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational reliability.
The team works closely with various departments, including Digital Services, Security, Strategic Estates, and the Restoration & Renewal Client Team, to ensure Parliament’s buildings are future-ready.
Role Overview: Electrical Project Engineer
As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will be instrumental in planning and delivering electrical asset upgrades, replacements, and enhancement projects across the Parliamentary Estate. You’ll ensure systems are compliant, efficient, and safe, contributing to the long-term sustainability and resilience of Parliament’s infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct condition surveys and assess the current electrical infrastructure across the estate
- Develop comprehensive business cases and technical documentation to secure project approvals
- Plan and deliver electrical maintenance and enhancement projects using Parliamentary project governance frameworks
- Supervise contractors on-site, ensuring all works meet safety, time, and quality standards
- Serve as the key PMST technical stakeholder for larger capital projects
- Respond to and support critical incidents requiring technical input
- Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety, CDM Regulations, and NEC contract standards
About You
To succeed in this role, you will need:
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or NVQ Level 6 (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it
- Proven experience in delivering complex electrical maintenance or infrastructure projects
- Deep understanding of electrical systems, fault diagnosis, and asset lifecycle management
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and hands-on experience with NEC contracts
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
- Strong communication and reporting capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines under pressure
- Familiarity with risk assessment, compliance, and quality control in live working environments
