Senior Social Worker – Localities Team
Location: Wandsworth
Salary: £42,192 – £51,127
Contract: Permanent | Full-Time

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils are seeking dedicated Senior Social Workers to join our Localities Teams. Our mission is to improve outcomes for vulnerable adults and their carers, while promoting independence and personalised care.

About the Team:
Our Localities Teams support adults aged 18+ with physical disabilities, older adults, and individuals living with mental health challenges. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team made up of a Service Manager, Assistant Service Managers, Senior Social Workers, Social Workers, and Social Care Assessors. Together, we deliver holistic, strengths-based services tailored to each individual’s needs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct strengths-based assessments for individuals and carers, promoting independence, safeguarding wellbeing, and preventing harm.
  • Apply a person-centred approach, working in partnership with service users and carers.
  • Uphold professional social work values and promote equality, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Operate within the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation.
  • Lead on safeguarding cases involving vulnerable adults, ensuring statutory duties and best practices are met.
  • Manage complex caseloads, demonstrating leadership in practice and decision-making.
  • Supervise and support a Social Worker and a Social Care Assessor.
  • Assist in managing budgets effectively, including authorising assessments, reviews, and arranging funding for support plans.
  • This is a hybrid role, involving time at the Council offices in Wandsworth, remote working, and community visits as required.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A qualified social worker with current registration with Social Work England
  • Completion of the ASYE programme (or equivalent experience demonstrating capability)
  • Strong communication, organisational, and decision-making skills
  • In-depth understanding of adult safeguarding, relevant legislation, and local authority responsibilities
  • Experience supporting and mentoring others in a team setting
