The National Education Union (NEU) is the UK’s largest education union, representing over 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff, and education leaders. We are looking for a talented Sub-Editor Designer to join our Communications, Campaigns and Political Engagement team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to combine editorial and design expertise to support our members and promote the union’s work.

About the Role of Sub-Editor Designer
As Sub-Editor Designer, you will play a key role in delivering the union’s publishing portfolio, which includes:

  • Magazines, newsletters, and e-bulletins.
  • Print and digital publications that engage members and stakeholders.
  • Campaign materials that celebrate union successes and mobilise support.
  • You will be responsible for sub-editing, layout and design, production processes, and supplier management.
  • This is a varied role where no two days are the same, and your work will directly support recruitment, retention, and member engagement.

What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Proven sub-editing experience across a variety of audiences.
  • Strong skills in layout, design, and production processes.
  • Ability to manage supplier relationships effectively.
  • Excellent judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Advanced IT knowledge, including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working with digital media and publishing platforms.

Working Arrangements
This is a part-time, permanent position (2.5 days per week) based at our Hamilton House office in London. The NEU operates blended working, which means office-based staff typically spend 3–4 days a week in the office (pro rata for part-time staff) and the rest working from home, depending on business needs.
