We’re looking for a Marine Scientist to support our UK campaigns by conducting and translating research into actionable insights that inform policy, inspire public awareness, and drive measurable change.

Our UK team is small, experienced, and passionate—working across London and Cornwall in a collaborative and ambitious environment. We lead strategic campaigns and serve as a powerful policy interface to influence change at both local and national levels.
What You’ll Do
As Marine Scientist, you’ll be central to our mission—applying scientific evidence to our campaigns and building meaningful relationships within the academic and conservation communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Oceana UK’s campaigns with scientific input, research, and analysis
- Draft and review scientific reports, position papers, and campaign briefings
- Conduct literature reviews and data analysis to inform campaign strategy
- Commission and manage research from external partners
- Collaborate with global Oceana scientists to share insights and knowledge
- Represent Oceana at relevant conferences, academic events, and stakeholder meetings
- Identify new research needs and stay current with scientific developments
- Engage with media, partners, and policymakers to communicate scientific findings
- Uphold Oceana’s values around diversity, equity, inclusion, and integrity
About You
Education & Experience:
- Degree (ideally a Master’s) in marine, environmental, or fisheries science (or related field)
- Experience conducting or commissioning research and summarising findings for varied audiences
- Understanding of UK marine and climate policy, institutions, and legislation
- Passion for ocean protection and UK marine biodiversity
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Experience with GIS and basic data/statistical analysis
- Excellent project management and communication skills
- Confidence in engaging with academic, governmental, and NGO stakeholders
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently
- Commitment to inclusive practices and safeguarding sensitive information
